Camp NaNo April – Day 8 recap

Camp-2017-Participant-Twitter-Header

Well, I’ve had an interesting couple of days with family drama, and it’s really messing with my anxiety and concentration. I’m trying to stay positive, though, and keep pushing on. Which means still writing. I haven’t broke my streak yet. It just keeps getting harder to get the words out. I can do this. I can, I can, I can.

Now that the pep talk is over…

Day 8: guard

Today’s story takes place in an alternate reality where the Ark never died and no one was sent to Earth. Everything is just normal. And boring.

Clarke and her friends aren’t exactly the most popular people. That happens when the chancellor’s son is in your group. Nobody likes or trusts Wells, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to fit in. He’s the one that talks Clarke into going to the party.

She tries to enjoy herself, she really does, but it’s obvious they’re not wanted. Running into John Murphy confirms that for her. Sometimes she wishes she could just punch him in his smug face. But when the party is raided, he comes in pretty handy because Murphy always knows the quickest way out of trouble.

Clarke’s lost Wells and her friends, but she’s also lost the guards. All she has to do is make it home without being seen. The coast seems clear right up until she turns a corner and runs right into someone tall with black hair, too many freckles, and an annoyingly cute smirk.

She panics at the sight of his guard uniform, but then realizes he’s just a cadet. She’s dealt with his kind before–dumb kids not much older than her, puffed up on a power trip. She doesn’t take crap from them. And she won’t take crap from this Blake guy either.

Of course Bellamy’s had his fair share of dealings with haughty princesses from Alpha Station that think they can get away with anything because of who their parents are. He’s not going to take her crap. It’s a battle of wills and wit. Who will win?

The End.

Hahahahaha. You’ll just have to wait for the story to be finished to find out the rest. I’m evil like that.

Bonus:

“You’re not even a real guard.”

“Excuse me.”

She taps the spot on his chest where the guard crest should be. “You’re just a cadet.”

Now his partner is rolling. “She’s got you there, Blake.”

Other recaps:

Stargate SG-1 fic: Making the Best of It

This was started last month for a fictionland challenge but I never could get it to the minimum wordcount needed so it kind of just got forgotten.  I decided I like my original version the best (after adding almost 500 words to it) so here it is.

The cabin stood in a valley between the swell of two grassy hills. They glided up on either side like waves of green. A small stream snaked along the contour of one hill before disappearing into the woods behind the house. Out front a large pasture stretched out for acres, small cow-like animals grazing in the warm, summer sun.

“It’s kind of small.” Jack pulled his sunglasses off and let them dangle from the cord around his neck. Read more…

It had been three years since he’d talked to her on a personal level. And most of that time he avoided her professionally. Getting her off the planet had been a step in the right direction. It wasn’t that he was bitter it was just… Oh, who was he kidding? He was bitter as hell.

My first week with the program. It’s nothing like I imagined. There’s a hustle and urgency in the air. People get out of my way when I walk down the hall. I don’t know if it’s because I’m the guy that predicted the future or because I’m the famous writer or because I’m the guy that’s supposed to fix the mess. Read more…

Stargate SG-1 fic: Work of Fiction (1)

This story is the first in a planned series inspired by the [info]writers30days challenge. This is prompt: writer’s choice #1 and eventually I’ll use all 15 prompts. The stories take place in an alternate reality that is much different than our own but still has our favorite group of intrepid explorers out there… exploring. Oh, and Kawalsky, too.
