Camp NaNo April – Day 26 recap

Camp-2017-Participant-Profile-PhotoI don’t think I have anything interesting or snarky to say today, so I’ll jut get right to the recap.

Day 26: life

Ten years ago, they sealed the doors to the underground bunker they thought they would be calling home for five years. They weren’t prepared for the extended stay. At the five-year mark, twelve people treated with the Nightblood therapy went to the surface. Ten came back. Barely.

Since then, they’ve occasionally sent people out to test the radiation levels. After ten years, they’re hoping this mission will give them the good news that the Earth is survivable again. Because they’re not really sure how long they can stay underground before the entire population loses its collective minds.

Bellamy and Clarke are leading the expedition. That is if Abby will ever let them leave. Her maternal worrying has grown out of control over the years since her stroke. There’s only so much of it they can stand. Kane, though, manages to distract Abby long enough for them to make their escape.

The surface is nothing like they left it–nothing like when they landed. Nothing the grounders remember. It’s barren and haunted. If they’re lucky, they’ll find signs of life this time. Little bits of grass pushing through the cracked ground. Maybe a bird. A bug. Anything will do.

Bellamy isn’t looking forward to this mission. As much as he hates the bunker, seeing the wasteland on the surface makes him ill. On top of that, Roan has invited himself along. He refuses to admit his title of “king” means nothing after all of these years. Bellamy isn’t in the mood to butt heads with him.

Then there’s Clarke. Who isn’t exactly talking to him at the moment. Which is fine because he doesn’t want to talk to her either. He’s not sure when their friendship fell apart or why. Sometimes, he’s not even sure he cares. Between the potential radiation sickness, Roan’s moaning, and dealing with Clarke, his day is looking bleaker and bleaker.

The End.

Sorry, most of what I wrote was world building and Abby babying Bellamy. And it might not sound like it, but it’s totally a love story. Bellamy and Clarke will always find their way back to each other somehow.

Bonus:

Abby gave him one of those looks that always make him feel like a little boy. “Be careful. Okay? I know your tolerance to the radiation is high, but you can still have symptoms. If you start to feel sick come straight back. Any symptom–upset stomach, itchy skin that could mean lesions, dizziness.

“I know,” Bellamy said, checking his pack again.

“Abby,” Kane said, pulling her away, “quit mothering the boy to death.”

Bellamy shot him a thankful look.

“I just want to make sure he’s going to be okay.”

Kane sighed. “He knows what he’s doing. And Clarke will be with him. What could possibly go wrong?”

A few feet away, Clarke snorted. Bellamy ignored her then snapped his bag closed, tossing it over his shoulder. “I’ll be fine, Abby; I promise. I’ll watch for symptoms and check my readings-” he tapped the radiation monitor clipped to his jacket “-and I won’t eat any strange plants or animals.”

“Don’t eat anything!”

He smiled. She hadn’t been the same since her stroke a few years ago, but underneath she was still Dr. Griffin. “I promise I won’t eat anything. If I try, I’m sure Clarke will smack some sense into me or something.”

Clarke snorted again.

Abby pressed her hand to his cheek. “You’re a good boy.”

Camp NaNo April – Day 20 recap

Camp-2017-Participant-Profile-PhotoDay 20. Just ten more days left of Camp. Things are winding down and fatigue is setting in. I can feel myself burning out. But I’m pushing through. I’m determined to do my 1,000 words every day. I need to do this for myself. I’m also getting a lot of great stories out of this.

Today’s story is another that received an ending. It’s not happy or fluffy, but there is another tender moment between Bellamy and Clarke while they try to figure out how to keep everyone alive over the long winter while still not knowing how they fit together with each other.

Day 20: breath

When the Ark never made it to Earth, the 100, are left to fend for themselves on a hostile planet. The grounders might have backed off, but they aren’t the only threat. Because if they don’t starve to death, they’ll surely freeze. And Clarke just lost three more to those very things.

She’s falling apart when Bellamy finds her after a long day of digging graves in the barely above freezing temperatures. It’s more than a little upsetting to see her break down, but there’s another part of him that wants nothing more than to wrap her into a tight embrace and tell her everything will be all right. It might be a lie, but it’s all he has to offer.

He’s kind of amazed when she actually lets him do just that. Things are awful and more people will die before winter ends, but he’s sure they’ll make it through as long as they have each other. He’s not really sure what he means by that, but it sounds right. The world doesn’t seem as harsh with Clarke by his side. Even if all they do is bicker about every decision that needs to be made.

Actually, if he’s honest, he kind of likes that part, too.

Clarke can be a royal pain, like making him promise to stop giving away his rations, but Bellamy can be just as stubborn. He’ll start eating as long as Clarke stops and takes a break. It’s probably the first thing they agree on. Hopefully it won’t be the last.

The End.

Bonus:

Bellamy hates seeing her cry. He reaches for her without thinking but stops, his hand hovering over her shoulder. She looks up at him with watery eyes. Something cracks in his chest, letting a warmth rush in. He slips his hand around her shoulders and pulls her close.

He’s kind of surprised when she wraps her arms around his waist and presses her face into his shoulder. He rubs little circles on her back as Clarke cries. “It’s going to be okay,” he whispers. “We’re going to figure this out.”

“How?”

He has no answer. “I don’t know, but the two of us together can do this.”

Camp NaNo April – Day 19 recap

Camp-2017-Participant-Profile-PhotoI had a good idea for today’s story, but couldn’t pull it off thanks to sleep deprivation and a blinding headache. No fears, though. I’m keeping the idea and will rewrite with better material when I get the chance.

Day 19: threat

This story diverges from canon in season three, episode five. Clarke had a solid plan to get Arkadia out of trouble. She just needed to talk to Bellamy and everything would work out fine. Except that’s not what happened.

Instead he cuffs her to a table, flipping her world upside down. Worse yet, he leaves her alone with Pike who has his own agenda. Clarke’s never seen anyone so drunk on power or with a thirst for revenge that can’t be quenched. Not even among the grounders.

Pike’s opinion of her isn’t much better, considering she’s sleeping with the enemy. That’s treason in Pike’s book. And nothing will change his mind.

The End.

Not much happens, although there’s a lot of arguing between the characters. Since it is so short, I’ll give a little glimpse into what happens. This is basically a rewrite of the rest of season three starting with the scene where Bellamy cuffs Clarke to the table. This time, Pike finds her and tosses her into the stockade.

Events diverge even more after that. Bellamy’s loyalties are split further. When Sinclair, Kane, and Lincoln are sentenced to death, so is Clarke. Bellamy doesn’t go to Octavia for help. Instead he makes his own move to save his friends. Luckily the remnants of the 100 still have his back, no matter how angry they are with him.

Bonus:

“You know, Clarke, you were one of my star pupils. You were so willing to learn. Eager. You wanted to know everything. It doesn’t surprise me that you’ve become a strong leader.” Clarke doesn’t say anything. “I can’t figure out what happened, though. Why would you give up your own people?”

Clarke bristles. “I haven’t given anyone up.”

” You stayed in Polis. You’ve sided with the grounders.”

“I stayed in Polis because I could do more good there. Negotiating with the commander.”

“Lexa, right.” He pushes off the wall. “What exactly is your relationship with the Commander?”

She narrows her eyes. “I don’t know what you mean?”

“I mean your relationship. You’re close, right? Friends?” He cocks his head. “More than that?”

“That’s none of your business,” she says through gritted teeth.

“You want to know what I think, Clarke?”

She really doesn’t, but she says nothing.

“I think you have a conflict of interest. You say you’re trying to help your people, yet you shack up with the enemy.”

Her jaw drops. “I’m not shack-”

“In my book, that’s called treason.”

Camp NaNo April – Day 16 recap

Camp-2017-Participant-Profile-PhotoThis is probably going to be a short and sweet post. My mama cat is about to drive me insane. She’s having serious anxiety attacks because I won’t let her take her two-week-old kittens into the dark and dangerous garage. I’ve spent half the night trying to calm her down, and the other half putting kittens back in their basket where they’re safe.

Cats.

So, without further ado…

Day 16: illusive

Today’s story takes place nearly right after season 4, episode 8 ends. With a little tweaking. Jasper’s finally convinced Bellamy to relax. Just for a bit. A couple cups of jobi nut tea has him looser than he’s ever been.

It actually feels kind of nice to not care for once. To not have the weight of the entire human race crushing him. Bree even gets him to dance. Well, mostly he just stands there while she wiggles around. It reminds him that he used to have a life before all of this. He had friends and a girlfriend, and they’d hang out at parties. Like this.

The jobi nuts must be kicking in because Bellamy’s having a hard time focusing. Bree keeps changing her hair color. And her eyes. For a second he’s sure he’s dancing with his high school girlfriend. He blinks and Gina’s there which nearly knocks him over.

Things get kind of confusing after that. Especially when Bree starts looking like Clarke. He’s definitely hit his limit–time to get some sleep. Bree has other ideas, though, and Bellamy’s not exactly against them. At least his body is agreeing with her. He tries not to think about anything with Bree’s tongue down his throat, but sometimes it’s not Bree he’s with. Sometimes he’s not even on the Ark. Sometimes he thinks he’s losing his mind.

The End.

Yeah, I didn’t get very far with this story before my wrist started hurting. I got my 1,000 words, though. And I swear, Clarke is in this story. And not just as a figment of his imagination.

Bonus (extra long to make up for the crappy recap):

Bellamy turns back to Bree. She smiles up at him, eyes slightly unfocused. The music switches up to something much slower. Bree sways her hips to the beat. Bellamy doesn’t even need to move–Bree does all of the work.

“I haven’t seen you around much,” she says.

Bellamy shrugs. “It’s been kind of crazy.”

“Really? I hadn’t noticed.”

They both laugh. “How have you been, Bree?”

She leans back to get a better look at his face, tossing her hair back. “Oh, you know, torture and loss of free will. The usual. You?”

He can’t really tell if she’s joking or not. There’s a touch of bitterness in her voice. He gives her an easy smile. “About the same, just sprinkle with some murder and loss of hope in humanity.”

She blinks at him a few seconds then busts out laughing. “God, our lives suck.”

Bellamy relaxes some and starts to move to the music, turning them slowly. He doesn’t even realize he’s pulling Bree closer until she nuzzles against his neck.
